Review of Speaking Website

Hello students, when I search website for teaching speaking, I found an interesting website. That website is called ESL gold. The URL of the website is http://www.eslgold.com/speaking.html

I will give you review of this website, ESLgold.com gives you the opportunity to practice your English language skills in many ways. If you're a beginner, you can start by checking out our vocabulary pages, where you can see, hear, and say new words in English. This website also provides speaking, listening, writing, reading, grammar, vocabulary, business, pronunciation, TOEFL/TOEIC, and Idioms pages. In the speaking page, we are served:

Students can find the material (transcript, and audio files) from the menus above. They also can get the textbook which recommended by ESL gold. In addition, teacher gives a lot of advantage from this website. Teacher can get the material freely, and it’s not wasting time to prepare learning material. There exist a learning strategies, quizzes, and also link to get speaking situation to improve teacher’s material.

This website is awesome. All materials on ESLgold.com are free of charge and organized by skill and level for quick and easy access. ESLgold provides you with recommendations for great textbooks and even a book exchange, where you can buy and sell used books.

    Listening Section

    Hello students...

    In this very first occasion, I will give you listening section. Listening Section will be divided into three section, they are pre listening, whilst listening and post listening section. Pre listening section is such warming up, it contains material which delivers you into main activity or listening test. Whilst listening section is listening test itself. Post listening section contains examination which you can do as homework.


    I. PRE LISTENING SECTION

    Have you ever learned about procedure text? I think some of you have learned it but the others haven't.
    Now, you will have listening test about procedure text, let's see what is procedure text.

    Procedure : a text that shows a process in order. Its social function is to describe how something is completely done through a sequence of series.



    Characteristic of Procedure Text:
    1. Generic Structure
    • a. Goal/Aim: Showing the purpose
    • b. List of material: Telling the needed materials. For example: The materials are as follows : 1. Two slides of bread, 2. fried-egg, strawberry jam, chocolate sprinkles
    • c. Sequence of steps: Describing the steps to achieve the purpose, for example: First, take two slides of bread and …
    2. Language Feature of Procedure
    • a. Using simple present tense
    • b. Using imperative/order sentences: for example: Turn on the lamp, Put the rice into the rice cooker, Don’ t forget to press the ‘on’ button.
    • c. Using sequences/temporal conjunctions: first, second, then, next, the last, finally.

    HOW TO MAKE FRIED RICE

    Things You'll Need:
    • 2 tablespoons peanut, sesame or other oil
    • 2 cloves garlic, minced
    • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, minced (optional)
    • 1/2 cup diced onion or 4 green onions, thinly sliced
    • 1/3 cup diced carrot, cooked
    • 1/4 cup frozen peas, thawed
    • 4 cups cooked white or brown rice, cooled completely
    • 1 cup chopped, cooked shrimp, pork or beef
    • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
    • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
    • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
    • Measuring spoons
    • Rice cooker
    • Groceries
    • Measuring cups
    • Wok or large skillet
    • Chef's knives
    • Stirring spoon
    • Cutting board

    Instructions:
    1. Heat the oil in a wok or large skillet over high heat.
    2. Add the garlic, ginger and onion and cook, stirring constantly, for 1 minute.
    3. Reduce the heat to medium, and add the carrot, peas, rice and meat and cook, stirring, for about 5 minutes.
    4. Use your stirring spoon to make a well in the center of the rice and pour the eggs into it. Let the eggs cook for 1 minute, then slowly start to stir and incorporate the egg into the rice.
    5. Add the soy sauce and cook for 2 minutes longer, stirring and tossing with the spoon.
    6. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
    7. Serve immediately.



    VOCABULARY REVIEW:
    Tablespoon: a large spoon used for measuring or serving food (sendok makan)
    Teaspoon: a small spoon used to stir tea or coffee in a cup (sendok teh)
    Cloves: a small separate part of a bulb of garlic (butir)
    Minced: having been cut up into very small pieces (dicincang)
    Ginger: the spicy root of a tropical plant which is used in cooking or eaten preserved in sugar (jahe)
    Diced: to cut food into small squares (dipotong dadu)
    Sliced: cut into thin flat pieces (diiris tipis)
    Frozen: turned into ice (beku)
    Thawed: dicairkan
    Chopped: to cut something into pieces with an axe , knife or other sharp instrument (diiris)
    Soy sauce: kecap
    Shrimp: a small sea animal with a thin shell, ten legs and long tail, or its pink curved body eaten as food (udang)
    Pork: meat from a pig, eaten as food (daging babi)
    Beef: the flesh of cows which is eaten (daging sapi)
    Large skillet: large frying pan (wajan besar)
    Groceries: the food that you buy in a grocer's shop or supermarket (bahan pangan)
    Stir: to mix a liquid or other substance by moving an object such as a spoon in a circular pattern (aduk)
     



    After you have read the procedure text above, I provide you some pictures of the things which you need to make cuisine, look at the pictures below!








    After you look at the pictures, answer the questions below!
    Please submit your answers through the comment.

    II. WHILST LISTENING SECTION


    It is time to listening section, are you ready students?

    In your test book, you will read five questions about procedure text. Each question will be followed by four answers. You have to choose the best answer to each question and mark it on your answer sheet.

    After listening the audio file, answer the questions below to enlarge your understanding about procedure text. 



    You have to print your listening test result than submit it in the next classroom meeting.

    III. POST LISTENING SECTION

    Now, after you did your test, I will give you more exercises.
