Speaking Section - Procedure text


What’s up students?

How’s your day?

I hope today will be your unforgettable moment because we will learn about speaking using my blog. In this speaking section I provide you some activities and exercises, Are you setting your heart on that? What did you say? I can’t hear your voice. Ok, some of you said yes and few of you said haven’t been ready yet. How if we start our speaking section now? I think few of you who are not ready will be influenced with others and follow this section. Is it good idea, students?


I. PRE SPEAKING SECTION

This is the first section of our speaking section. In this section I give you expressions of asking and giving opinion. You can read those expressions below. If you want to listen those expression and practice how near your pronunciation, stress and intonation with the native speaker, you can click the streaming audio below.

PS: in the Colum ‘giving opinion’ the words without bolding can be replaced with your own opinions


Now, after you have learnt about asking and giving opinion, I will give you some pictures.



Answer the questions orally, than record your answer!

II. WHILST SPEAKING SECTION

Hello students, are you tired after did the pre speaking section? You can stretch your body now before we go to the main activity. What is that? You right, it is whilst speaking section or speaking section itself. In this section you have to have extra energy to speak aloud. Do you mind if I give you something entertaining such as video? Ok, before we practice, I will give you video about making an origami box. I hope this video can make your brain refresh.

Below is transcription of the video. It will help you to understand the video. First, you can read it aloud then read it in silence.
How to make an origami Box
Loves look difficulty. Simple, here is a great way to make a single peace of paper into a simple box, perfect for hold on whatever knickknack to keep sexy health life around.
You will need:
A sheet of rectangular paper
And a plat surface.
Optional the cover or page from a magazine.
Step 1: Place the paper on the flat surface with the long edges at the top and bottom .
Tip: It’s having by loving it printed paper work well but the cover or a page of magazine works even better and it’s a great way to recycle
Step 2: Fold one long edge to be opposite long edge crease than unfold
Step 3: Fold one long edge to be the center crease you just make, now do the same with the other long edges, so they both meet in the center, unfold completely.
Step 4: Rotate your paper and fold one short edge to be opposite short edge, unfold.
Step 5: Fold the each short edge to be the center crease similar with the step 1 and 2, do not unfold.
Step 6: Orient the paper so the one of the long fold edges closest to you, there should be three vertical creases in your paper, starting at the bottom in the right hand crease, fold the nearest corner so the folded edge lines a belong nearest the vertical crease, crease hard through all the layers
Step 7: Repeat this creasing in the three remaining corners
Tip: you should now have a football shape with four triangular corners, two short edges, and two long, loose edges in the center the model
Step 8: Fold one of the loose edges as far as go away from the center over two of the triangles bending the two small and tends over to lock the edges place, repeat the other edges
Step 9: Place your thumbs inside under the hand edges and gently lift upward to open the box
Step 10: Pinch each corner and you’re done. Now, make another one for a lid
Did you know Origami began in China and letter caught on in Japan, were documents were folded to secure them.

After watching the video and reading the transcription, retell the text above using your own words. You can record your voice using recorder.
Now, I provide you dialogue appropriate with the video. Practice the dialogue with your partner. After practicing the dialogue, record your voice when do the conversation with your partner.

Nanta           : Hello Andrea, what are you doing?
Andrea         : Hello Nanta, I am making an origami box.
Nanta           : Wow, That’s interesting! Can you tell me how to make it?
Andrea         : First, you have to prepare a sheet of rectangular paper and a plat surface.
Nanta           : How if I use the cover or page from magazine?
Andrea         : It’s up to you. The cover or page from a magazine is better because it’s great way to recycle.
Nanta           : Then, What should I do?
Andrea         : You can follow me. First, you place the paper on the flat surface with the long edges at the top and bottom. Then Fold one long edge to be the center crease you just make, now do the same with the other long edges, so they both meet in the center, unfold completely. Are you done?
Nanta           : Heemmtz… It’s quiet difficult to me to follow you. Can you teach me in another occasion? now I have to be hurry up because my parents have waited me to go to gathering party.
Andrea          : Don’t worry, We will learn how to make origami box when you have much time.
Nanta           : Thank you, see you Andrea.
Andrea         : See you Nanta.
III. POST SPEAKING SECTION

In this section, I give you homework to make your own dialogue according to the video. You can make it in pairs than record your voice in cassettes or CD.
PS:  PLEASE SUBMIT YOUR WORK IN THE NEXT CLASSROOM MEETING. WHO DOES NOT SUBMIT ON TIME WILL BE NOT COUNTED.

1. Recording of answering the question
2. Retell the text ‘how to make an origami box’ using your own word
3. Recording of the dialogue (in pairs)
4. Recording of your own dialogue appropriate with the video (in pairs)

    Listening Section

    Hello students...

    In this very first occasion, I will give you listening section. Listening Section will be divided into three section, they are pre listening, whilst listening and post listening section. Pre listening section is such warming up, it contains material which delivers you into main activity or listening test. Whilst listening section is listening test itself. Post listening section contains examination which you can do as homework.


    I. PRE LISTENING SECTION

    Have you ever learned about procedure text? I think some of you have learned it but the others haven't.
    Now, you will have listening test about procedure text, let's see what is procedure text.

    Procedure : a text that shows a process in order. Its social function is to describe how something is completely done through a sequence of series.



    Characteristic of Procedure Text:
    1. Generic Structure
    • a. Goal/Aim: Showing the purpose
    • b. List of material: Telling the needed materials. For example: The materials are as follows : 1. Two slides of bread, 2. fried-egg, strawberry jam, chocolate sprinkles
    • c. Sequence of steps: Describing the steps to achieve the purpose, for example: First, take two slides of bread and …
    2. Language Feature of Procedure
    • a. Using simple present tense
    • b. Using imperative/order sentences: for example: Turn on the lamp, Put the rice into the rice cooker, Don’ t forget to press the ‘on’ button.
    • c. Using sequences/temporal conjunctions: first, second, then, next, the last, finally.

    HOW TO MAKE FRIED RICE

    Things You'll Need:
    • 2 tablespoons peanut, sesame or other oil
    • 2 cloves garlic, minced
    • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, minced (optional)
    • 1/2 cup diced onion or 4 green onions, thinly sliced
    • 1/3 cup diced carrot, cooked
    • 1/4 cup frozen peas, thawed
    • 4 cups cooked white or brown rice, cooled completely
    • 1 cup chopped, cooked shrimp, pork or beef
    • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
    • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
    • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
    • Measuring spoons
    • Rice cooker
    • Groceries
    • Measuring cups
    • Wok or large skillet
    • Chef's knives
    • Stirring spoon
    • Cutting board

    Instructions:
    1. Heat the oil in a wok or large skillet over high heat.
    2. Add the garlic, ginger and onion and cook, stirring constantly, for 1 minute.
    3. Reduce the heat to medium, and add the carrot, peas, rice and meat and cook, stirring, for about 5 minutes.
    4. Use your stirring spoon to make a well in the center of the rice and pour the eggs into it. Let the eggs cook for 1 minute, then slowly start to stir and incorporate the egg into the rice.
    5. Add the soy sauce and cook for 2 minutes longer, stirring and tossing with the spoon.
    6. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
    7. Serve immediately.



    VOCABULARY REVIEW:
    Tablespoon: a large spoon used for measuring or serving food (sendok makan)
    Teaspoon: a small spoon used to stir tea or coffee in a cup (sendok teh)
    Cloves: a small separate part of a bulb of garlic (butir)
    Minced: having been cut up into very small pieces (dicincang)
    Ginger: the spicy root of a tropical plant which is used in cooking or eaten preserved in sugar (jahe)
    Diced: to cut food into small squares (dipotong dadu)
    Sliced: cut into thin flat pieces (diiris tipis)
    Frozen: turned into ice (beku)
    Thawed: dicairkan
    Chopped: to cut something into pieces with an axe , knife or other sharp instrument (diiris)
    Soy sauce: kecap
    Shrimp: a small sea animal with a thin shell, ten legs and long tail, or its pink curved body eaten as food (udang)
    Pork: meat from a pig, eaten as food (daging babi)
    Beef: the flesh of cows which is eaten (daging sapi)
    Large skillet: large frying pan (wajan besar)
    Groceries: the food that you buy in a grocer's shop or supermarket (bahan pangan)
    Stir: to mix a liquid or other substance by moving an object such as a spoon in a circular pattern (aduk)

    After you look at the pictures, answer the questions below!

    It is time to listening section, are you ready students?

    In your test book, you will read five questions about procedure text. Each question will be followed by four answers. You have to choose the best answer to each question and mark it on your answer sheet.
